Disaster Management Centre (DMC)

UDMC’s role in preparing the Accra authorities for such an eventuality drew praise from Ghana’s President and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), with the team’s advice being described as ‘invaluable’ by NADMO’s Head of Research.

Little wonder, then, that BUDMC enjoys a global reputation for disaster management.

SME Digital Transformation

Research conducted by Dr Philip Alford at Bournemouth University is transforming small owner-managed enterprises into more entrepreneurial and innovative businesses, enabled by more effective adoption of technology. The Digital Transformation project has the potential to create stronger market orientation and more agile marketing, adhering to the principle of effectual reasoning, whereby business owners create their future rather than try to predict it, through leveraging means at their disposal, which includes their networks and partnerships.

Wessex Portal

The Wessex Portal was created three years ago as an online community to promote the environmental and heritage assets of the region. The purpose of the website is to highlight work undertaken in Wessex and allow a platform to promote events, volunteering and job opportunities with key stakeholders. The geographical extent of the Wessex region is a matter of debate but the modern counties included are Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset, Isle of Wight, Devon and Berkshire. The homepage is divided into the following categories:

Black Down fortlet, Winterbourne Steepleton, Dorset facing south. The photograph (1970) shows the single bank and ditch defences with the single entrance gap to the east (Bill Putnam Collection).
