Rhiannon Barrington: Reading, eye movements and developmental dyslexia

Researcher: Rhiannon Barrington

Despite normal intelligence and educational opportunities, some children show a persistent difficulty in learning to read; these children are often diagnosed with developmental dyslexia.

Here at Bournemouth University, we are using eye tracking technology to explore how these children are reading and what can be done to make the reading process easier.

By tracking eye movements we can see where dyslexic children’s eyes fall when reading and analyse patterns to provide insights into their reading thought processes and hopefully find new ways to improve teaching and  learning methods for children with dyslexia.
