Emerge – Experimental Media Space

The Experimental Media Space group is a multidisciplinary research strand centred within Bournemouth University’s EMERGE (Experimental Media Research) Group. Its research is engaged with the relationship between networks, spatial information systems and artistic practice.

Areas of research interest include: GIS and media, locative media, multi-site performance; distributed instruments; decentralised working practices; extension and control in interactive performance; participation; connectionism; self organisation & distributed aesthetics.

Consisting of a body of practitioners and theorists this group aims to promote dialogue and debate through the creation and dissemination of new work whilst situating this discussion within the spheres of cultural theory and philosophy.

We welcome applications for PhD research and have studentships available through BU and AHRC funding in Film, Digital and Media Production.
