Clinical psychology research in the media

Research over the past 5 years involving research visits to France and the United States is featured in interviews for shows on over 40 radio stations, and in the New Scientist. Dr Simon Thompson has been exploring the link between the naturally produced hormone, cortisol, and yawning and has published his hypothesis, the Thompson Cortisol Hypothesis that has been the focus of several randomized controlled trials.

Talking about hormones, including cortisol, and how they might be involved in hugging, he comments about a recent survey conducted by Fairy Non-Bio of over 2000 parents about hugging their children. All of the BBC radio stations and several commercial stations were involved in which Dr Thompson also discussed the findings of his own research that has now lead to international collaboration with French hospitals and universities and an invitation to the French Embassy to establish the International Scientific Committee on Research in Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

It is hoped that his research findings will contribute to early identification of symptoms of neurological diseases such as MS, as a potential new diagnostic tool.
