Paul Mann from the older carers research study along with Dr Mel Hughes, presented at the Wessex Academic Health Science Network’s Healthy Ageing Community of Practice event today. The event was attended by a wide range of practitioners such as GPs, consultants, dietitians, nurses, care home staff, social workers and physios working in the field of healthy ageing across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.
The research team presented the older carers research findings; shared the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer film and handed out copies of the older carers guide. Paul shared his experiences of being an older carer in his eighties. The audience spoke of being moved by the film and discussed the importance of effective communication and support for carers. Several members of the audience plan to share the film with their teams to enable them to put themselves in the shoes of the carer and consider how they can best respond in their own settings.
