Cutting through the paperwork to deliver brilliant events

As part of the Festival of Learning in 2013, this workshop was run by BU academics in conjunction with the Police and other outside agencies. Topics included legislation in relation to licence applications, health and safety, bid writing, and grant applications. The event was aimed at small to medium sized event organisers, third sector and community organisations, and anyone baffled by the paperwork required for even small scale community events.

An event attendee reflected that “It was an interactive talk including presentations from the Police, Dorset Fire and Rescue, University Academics, a University Event Manager, and the University Summer Ball Director was attended by local event organisers to gain insights and tips into how to deal with all the paperwork necessary in organising events. Led by Dr Debbie Sadd and including a presentation from Dr Dorothy Fox, both from the School of Tourism, the event involved examples of student events from the BA (Hons) Event Management programme on which both teach, as well as other University run events. A great

Dr Sadd commented, ‘The audience remarked on what a useful event it had been listening to current requirements from the agencies but also real life examples from event producers and academics. A real mix of industry, practice and academia.’
