What is Cafe Scientifique?
Cafe Scientifique is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology. Enjoy listening to a short talk from a guest speaker before engaging in debate and discussion around the topic. Find out more about the international sensation that is Cafe Scientifique by looking at their website.
We run every first Tuesday of the month (with the odd exception) from 7.30pm – 9pm with doors open from 7.00pm. You don’t need to register for our events, just come along and enjoy yourself! Make sure you get here early for a good seat though as we fill up fast!
Our Next Event:

‘All eyes on inflammation in age-related macular degeneration’ – Professor Jessica Teeling, University of Southampton
Ever wondered why so many of us lose our vision when we get old, as a result of age-related macular degeneration? Is it our genes or our environment, or both? Do you want to find out how we can use research to tackle this most common form of blindness in elderly? In this interactive Cafe Scientifique, professor Jessica Teeling will take you on a journey into the eye, sometimes referred to as the ‘window of the brain’ and discuss the role of our immune system driving the tissue damage to the ageing retina, which ultimately leads to losing our sight.
